Why these elections are important: The elections are important, as elected candidates represent the views of the voluntary and community sector within the borough of Stockton on Tees. The contribution of these representatives to the Boards helps shape services meet the needs of the people.
What will be expected of successful nominees: Meetings are held bi-monthly and tend to be on Tuesday, early evening. Agenda items are sent out 7 to 10 days beforehand. Papers can be lengthy, and it is estimated that they can take up to an hour to read. This time is necessary to have a good understanding of the key points.
To help representatives, pre-meetings can be held so that you can get the views of others who are attending meetings as well as having the opportunity to seek clarification on some of the agenda items beforehand.
Why should you get involved: The voluntary and community sector needs strong representation if it is to have an impact in the Stockton area and make a valuable contribution to the decision making process. The more people who become involved and engaged the stronger the voice will have.
What are the benefits of getting involved: Apart from having the opportunity to influence the decision making process, you also receive training and support and a package of other benefits to help you deal with the tasks that your term in office may produce.
Please note that it is a requirement that your group discusses the elections, this would usually be done at a meeting but can be done via e-mail or telephoning.
If your group is not due to meet and minutes can not be provided, then please ask 2 members of your group to sign the nomination form to support the nominee.
Nominations will not be accepted without the supporting documents.
Nomination forms and associated documents must be returned by 4.30pm on Friday 15th July 2011 to SRCGA, Suite 4, 1st Floor, Marlborough House, 30-32 Yarm Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 3NG
